Rasicm and Xenophobia: For Refugee and Ethnic Equality (RAX FREE)
DAH is a Partner of the project with Centre for Peace Studies and in collaboration with Faculty of Political Science University of Zagreb.
Description of project:
(ENSURED ACCESS TO PROTECTION SYSTEMS FOR FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF ASYLUM
SEEKERS, REFUGEES AND VICTIMS OF DISCRIMINATION BASED ON RACE/ETHNIC)
Description of result:
Through this result we will tackle the problem of lack of integration support in
all aspects of life of asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants and provide assistance in integration
and their communication with institutions especially in relation to exercising their rights including
access to labour market, housing, recognition of diploma or prior learning, access to education, etc.
In 2014 more than 400 people applied for asylum status and overall number of refugees was 131.
Despite relatively small number of refugees they still face difficulties in securing access in practice to
the rights granted to them by national law. Through integration assistance to asylum seekers and
refugees, we will facilitate their communication with the institutions responsible for their integration
and access to rights in key areas of life: employment, education, accommodation and social services.
We will organize public events in communities where asylum seekers and refuges live (Kutina and
Zagreb neighbourhood of Dugave) to facilitate their integration into community. As the system of
language integration is not efficient for refugees, and the asylum seekers do not have the right to
attend official state language courses, through language assistance workshops we will enhance their
employment possibilities and improve their Croatian language skills. In order to provide necessary
services to asylum seekers and refugees CPS formed Informal Coordination of NGOs for integration
of migrants1 four years ago and has started to build capacities of interested organizations to adjust
their scope of services for asylum seekers and refugees as well. Also, through this project we will
enhance access to rights of asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants by providing free legal aid and strategic litigation in discrimination cases.
These direct assistance actions are vital for implementation of activities in Cluster 2: through
constant direct contact with vulnerable groups – beneficiaries of antidiscrimination and integration
policies, we collect vital information and recommendations for policy improvement.
